Kitchen Layout

Kitchen Layout

A well-designed kitchen layout improves workflow, comfort, and overall functionality. One of the most effective planning methods is the kitchen work triangle, which connects the sink, cooking area, and refrigerator to minimize unnecessary movement.

Recommended by the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA), the total distance between these three zones should ideally remain within 26 feet, with clear, unobstructed pathways to ensure safe and efficient movement throughout the kitchen.

Single-Wall Kitchen

Choosing the right kitchen layout is key to improving workflow, maximizing space, and ensuring smooth traffic flow. The following four layouts are widely used because they support an efficient work triangle and practical kitchen movement.

Single-Wall Kitchen

Ideal for small or open-concept spaces, this layout places cabinets and appliances along one wall. An island can be added to provide extra workspace and storage.

Galley (Corridor) Kitchen

This layout features cabinets and appliances on opposite sides, creating a streamlined walkway. It is highly efficient and allows easy movement while cooking.

L-Shaped Kitchen

With cabinetry arranged along two perpendicular walls, the L- shaped layout makes excellent use of corner space and provides flexibility for adding an island or dining area.

U-Shaped Kitchen

Designed across three walls, this layout offers maximum counter space and keeps all work zones within close reach, making it ideal for busy households or frequent cooking.
